Údarás na Gaeltachta regional offices and headquarters are to receive a major increase in bandwidth to the Government network, following an agreement with the licensed wireless network provider, AirSpeed Telecom.

The regional authority will increase bandwidth from 2Mbps to 10Mbps for its offices in An Daingean, Co. Kerry and An Bun Beag, Co. Donegal, while its headquarters in Na Forbacha, Co. Galway will link into the network at 50Mbps. The expanded connectivity will enhance the authority's ability to fulfil its mission of promoting the economic, social and cultural development of the Gaeltacht.

The agreement also expands the reach of the AirSpeed network into new areas -- including Kerry, Ennis, parts of Galway and Donegal -- which means that local businesses will now be able to access high-speed services equal to those available in urban areas.

AirSpeed provides uncontended, high-bandwidth services of up to 800Mbps to businesses and government organisations, including HEAnet, BreastCheck (NCSS) and RTE.
