The sky's the limit for DIAS with licensed wireless

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies is benefiting from faster, more reliable bandwidth between its main campus and the Dunsink Observatory, using a new licensed wireless connection from AirSpeed Telecom.

The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

The new link, which replaces an older 4Mb wireless connection, operates at 500 Mb per second between the DIAS Dublin city centre building and Dunsink, 8km away. It has successfully overcome challenges DIAS had experienced due to interference with other links in the area. The speed and security of the AirSpeed Telecom link offer vital support to the School of Cosmic Physics, which bases some its activities in the Observatory.

The AirSpeed Telecom connection will provide much greater bandwidth to support a range of projects, and it will offer DIAS the added security of real-time backup for its specialist machine clusters.

"The Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies really needed a fast link to replace a redundant and unreliable link," said Stephane Dudzinski, IT Manager, School of Cosmic Physics in the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies "AirSpeed was able to deliver just that and provide a very good level of quality at this location."
