AirSpeed Telecom provides bird's eye view of RTE's 'Nestwatch 2011'
For the fifth year running, AirSpeed Telecom's high speed bandwidth is enabling the live streaming of 'Nestwatch 2011' on the website of RTE Radio 1's Mooney show (www.rte.ie/mooney). Visitors can log in to the site to monitor the progress of nesting birds from the nest boxes in the gardens of Aras an Uachtarain and presenter Derek Mooney's back garden.
Taking advantage of AirSpeed Telecom's evolving technology, a HD camera has been fitted at the nesting site in Derek’s garden this year; viewers can see a TV-quality picture of the birds' progress, including crisp detail of the developing chicks who hatched in May. Nestwatch is one of a number of broadcast applications from RTE supported by AirSpeed Telecom, whose Livelinx service also enables the delivery of broadcast quality footage into the RTE newsroom.

Mooney's annual Nestwatch has proven to be one of RTE's most popular annual initiatives with the public and in the classroom, with half a million visitors logging in to watch the live stream each year. "Nestwatch 2011 truly demonstrates where technology and nature can meet, and we are very grateful to AirSpeed Telecom for providing this fantastic service to us," said Derek Mooney.
