West of Ireland welcomes Cisco TelePresence from Cisco and AirSpeed Telecom
Cisco has established Ireland's
first TelePresence service over a licensed wireless network, serving
one of its senior vice presidents based in Furbo, Co Galway. Cisco TelePresence technology
delivers an extremely compelling and immersive video conferencing and
collaboration experience, allowing companies to hold virtual meetings,
saving dramatically on travel time and cost
while not losing the effectiveness of
face-to-face business engagement. This technology, coupled with the
AirSpeed Telecom service, allows Cisco's senior vice
president to operate from a home environment when required on a 24 x
7 basis, to collaborate with his teams in the US, Ireland, India and
China. Cisco also has a major R&D centre in Galway.
Establishment of the Cisco
TelePresence service follows AirSpeed Telecom's rollout of high-bandwidth
services to regions in the West and Northwest, supported by Údarás
na Gaeltachta. "Of course there remains a bandwidth deficit in
many rural parts of Ireland, but our network expansion is helping to
turn this around so that efficiency-enhancing services like Cisco TelePresence
are usable by businesses in lesser served regions," said Brendan
Martin, Sales Director for AirSpeed Telecom.
"Irish companies of all
sizes are eager to move beyond browsing and e-mail to use networking
and the Internet more strategically, and high-quality, high-capacity
services like those we are bringing to the regions are making that possible."
